Creating a Web Site

I know that many of you are curious about building a web site (because you've asked me about it), but may not believe you can actually do it. I thought I would share a little of my own experience and encourage you to go for it!

The idea started a while ago because there was a dissatisfaction on my part regarding the lack of resources on (and off) the internet about quick and easy methods for the self interpretation of dreams.

Since I've always done my own thing when it comes to decoding dream symbols, and these methods work, why not share these methods with others?

I could have written a book, but then I would need to find a publisher (not easy), and then wait a year or two to see it in print (requires saintly patience), and then...that's about it.

I would have no way of updating the book (unless I wrote another one), and no way of communicating with the readers... unless I created a web site around it.

Why not just skip the book and go straight to building a web site?

My first thoughts were of hiring someone to build it for me since I knew absolutely nothing about this sort of thing, but when researching the cost...well, it's not cheap and I simply didn't have that kind of money.

I knew that plenty of people built and ran their own sites and I couldn't imagine that all of them were experienced webmasters. I figured if they could do it, then maybe I could too.

I decided that I would somehow build it myself.

When I finally made the decision to create my own site, I researched furiously until I found a hosting resource that not only walked me step-by-step through the set up process, but was highly reputable AND affordable.

In June of 2006, I ran into Site Build It and between their case studies page and their money back guarantee, I decided to give it a shot.

Thankfully, it turned out the be the right decision.

They are truly a cut above in their supportive role for web newbies and their user friendly tools. The user forums alone would be reason enough to sign up as there is a WEALTH of information and fellow site builders ready to lend a hand.

Little did I know how much I would enjoy this venture and how it would change my life! I get to immerse myself in something I love and care about (working with dreams), AND I get to interact daily with folks all over the world, AND bring in a little money as well. That is truly incredible!!

UPDATE: As of today, (June 2008 - 2 years later) this site receives up to thousands of visitors daily and generates a modest income from Google Adsense.

This site is being used in high school psych classes around the U.S. and Canada and many other related sites and site blogs, as well as web directories that link back to various pages.

Not bad for a small-niche subject like self dream interpretation! Imagine what could happen with a more conventional subject!
