The Dream Log Ezine
The very first issue of Dream Log, What Are Dreams Really Made of?
talked about the nature of dreams and what they consist of.
This month, we are taking another look into why we should pay close attention to our dreams and how they benefit our daily lives. This is in response to people continually asking why their dreams are always negative. Anyone who has actually written their dreams down consistently for any length of time eventually realizes how accurately they mirror their emotional environment and inner self talk. Most people have a constant running commentary going through their minds while awake. Much of it is useless chatter…complaining, justifying actions and repetitive worrying. What’s more, many of us are not even remotely aware of what we are thinking about all day and this is where dreams can be of real help in alerting us to pay attention to what reality we are creating in our lives. For instance, if your dreams are full of darkness, anxiety, getting lost, getting stuck and so on (very common dreams by the way), your subconscious is literally releasing pent up emotion caused by constant negative thinking. You are largely reacting to life events and not necessarily learning from them. Dreams that contain beauty, positive instruction, loving friendships and creativity are the dreams to strive for. We want our dreams to contain clear and helpful messages. This is a sign of right thinking and being tapped into your higher intelligence. We all have days where everything flows smoothly and life is grand. Your dreams will reflect this state of mind. HOW do we get more positive feedback from our dreams? Start watching your self talk. Catch yourself in mid-thought sometime…what were you chattering to yourself about? Was it unconscious complaining or worry? Guess what will show up in your dreams that night. If you caught yourself admiring something beautiful, or planning constructively, or thinking pleasant thoughts of someone, then congratulations! DO more of that. Easier said than done…I know, but the effort is well worth it. You will feel so much better about yourself and chances are your dreams will reward you with pleasant images and useful information. You’ll also wake up feeling good more often without the lingering dread from worrisome dreams. For more reading, here are a couple more articles on this topic: ![]() |
